What do you see in the mirror?
1 Corinthians 13: 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.
James 1:23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; 24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away,he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.
2 Corinthains 3:18 We can all draw close to him with the veil removed from our faces. And with no veil we all become like mirrors who brightly reflect the glory of the Lord Jesus. We are being transfigured into his very image as we move from one brighter level of glory to another And this glorious transfiguration comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit
1 John 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is 3 And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
I struggled with low self-esteem from early childhood. Neglect and abuse shaped the image I saw in the mirror. When I was introduced to the love of God in Jesus I began to be transformed. I read the bible and experienced what I read about by the power of His Holy Spirit. Romans 5: 5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
In particular, one day, as I spent time with Him, I could see Him very clearly. Just like the 1 John 3:3 verse quoted above. As I saw Him as He is, I could see myself. Some of the good qualities in my personality seemed to be magnified, any sense of self-consciousness or judgment removed, I just WAS.
I could catch a glimpse of the person that I will be for eternity. No more shame, no sorrow, no sin. Love, grace, dignity, and generosity clothed and surrounded me. Everything I thought I lacked. Everything the enemy accused me of, GONE.
God is eternal therefore outside of time. He sees right now the person we will be in eternity. The person we are being transformed into, from glory to glory as we read in 2 Corinthians 3.
There has been a common trend in “vision boards’ People collate in one place, a bunch of pictures, objects that call to mind the goals of the future. What if you could have a vision of who you will be in heaven? How might that motivate you? Have you seen that? If not ask God to show you. We know that we will be like Him, and when we focus on that we purify ourselves 1 John 3 again:)
Spend time looking at Him in the bible and in times of prayer. Which of His attributes do you most appreciate? Might those be in part what He is cultivating in you? Why not ask? Trust me, a glimpse of who you are in eternity will change your life.
